LACE MAKING DEMONSTRATION 27th July - 2nd August 2009 The Lace Society and Cotswold Lacemakers, with help from Vale Lacemakers and Pillow Talk Lace Group, will be demonstrating lace-making techniques to accompany Sudeley's exhibition; Threads of Time - Textile Treasures of Sudeley. The demonstrations will take place in the Exhibitions area between 10.30am and 4.00pm, daily. There will also be a have-a-go pillow where visitors can try their hand at lace making. The recent returning trend in hand-made goods has prompted an upsurge of interest in traditional crafts. Sudeley is aiming to become renowned for its textile collection and hopes one day to be a centre for those wishing to study historical textiles, restoration and traditional techniques. Also on display will be tudor artefacts relating to Henry VIII's visit to Sudeley in 1535, in celebration of the Quincentenary of his accession to the throne. About Sudeley's Textile exhibition To celebrate this restoration a new and extensive exhibition of embroidery and textiles was launched in 2007, built round the Emma Dent Embroidery Collection, already described as a richly diverse sample of our textile heritage and one of the finest collections in the country. On display are examples of textile techniques spanning 400 years from a magnificent 17th century Stumpwork casket (with no less than 7 secret drawers), delicate lace, Whitework, costume and furnishings to sumptuous silk wall hangings and woven tapestry Find our more about The Lace Society at http://www.thelacesociety.org.uk EVENTS DIARY Click an event title to view details.
