Sudeley Castle and Gardens is giving doting sons and daughters the chance to treat mum like a queen this Mother’s Day, with an exquisite afternoon tea available all weekend.
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March, families can follow in the footsteps of royalty at Sudeley, taking in the spectacular castle and gardens in all their spring glory, before enjoying a sparkling afternoon tea in the Castle Kitchen at 3pm.
With a glass of prosecco on arrival, the menu features an array of locally-sourced, homemade treats that are sure to impress that important lady in your life.
Sandwiches include egg and mixed cress, smoked salmon and lemon creme fraiche, and Gloucester ham with Tewksbury mustard. While tempting sweets span fruit scones with clotted cream and jam, macarons, raspberry millefeuille, vanilla sponge fingers, white chocolate and orange delices, shortbread and homemade lemonade. Not forgetting the mature cheddar, sage and spring onion muffin and selection of teas to complement.
Vegetarian sandwiches are available on request, and include egg and mixed cress, avocado and tomato, and cucumber with herb cream cheese.
Families can soak up history as they explore the former royal residence, in particular the fascinating exhibition rooms of the west wing, which are filled with iconic Tudor paintings, sculptures, books and tapestries, as well as priceless objects and curiosities illustrating the story of the Winchcombe-based Castle and its owners.
Before they amble through 10 award-winning gardens, surrounded by striking views of the Cotswold Hills, and let little ones loose on the adventure playground and fun fort. Garden highlights include The Queens’ Garden with over 80 varieties of roses; the insta-worthy Knot Garden with its 1,200 box hedges forming an intricate geometric design; The Mulberry Garden, which is filled with country flowers and cool greenery; and the romantic Secret Garden, with its sea of over 2,500 spring tulips.
The gift shop will also be offering an array of treats to purchase for mum, including the beautifully-scented fragrance and products from the Royal Sudeley collection, as well as Sudeley souvenirs, books, toys and much more.
Kim Gibbon, Head of Visitor Services, said: “Spring is one of my favourite times at Sudeley as it is when the sun melts the frost and dances along the magnificent castle stone, and the gardens come alive with colour. It truly is spectacular.
“Mother’s Day is such a special celebration and I can’t think of a better way to show how much your mum means to you, than to treat her to a day out in our historic setting, topped off by the most luxurious tea!”
The Mother’s Day afternoon tea is priced at £35 per adult and £17.50 per child, plus admission or membership. Pre-booking is essential and while the castle closes at 4pm, the Castle Kitchen will remain open for afternoon tea.
