The summer holidays are officially in full swing at Sudeley Castle as hundreds of children arrived for our first children’s fun day event.
The first ‘Children’s Wednesday’ got underway in the glorious sunshine this week, with children from across the region enjoying the bouncy castle, inflatable activity centre, story-telling and fun condensed history shows featuring uni-cycling, juggling and escapology.
More than 250 ice creams and ice lollies were sold throughout the day to help keep visitors cool, with many guests seeking respite from the sun in the welcome shade of the numerous huge, leafy trees across the castle gardens.
The castle’s huge new fun fort within the adventure playground also proved popular, offering young adventurers the chance to explore the different levels, hide in various secret corners, tackle the climbing wall and whizz down the slides and zip-wire. An adventure trail and cradle swings are also on offer for little ones, while older children can take-on the 10-piece obstacle course.
Wendy Walton, our General Manager, said the first event had been a great success: “We are delighted to be offering these fantastic fun days throughout the summer and we are pleased with how well our first event has gone. Our visitors had a great time enjoying the castle, grounds and a host of entertainment and activities in the sun, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming many more guests to enjoy the summer at Sudeley Castle and make some great memories.”
As one of the Cotswolds’ most charming visitor attractions, Sudeley Castle is perhaps best known as being the final resting place of Queen Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives. Yet, almost 500 years on from her death, the Castle and gardens are very much full of life.
Visitors can explore the beautifully restored 15th century church where she lies entombed, meet the castle’s feathered friends in the pheasantry, or visit the new exhibition which tells the 1,000-year story of Sudeley’s history.
In the summer months, it is Sudeley’s 10 award-winning gardens that really steal the show. Set against the stunning backdrop of the majestic castle, and surrounded by striking views of the Cotswold Hills, the gardens are an ever-evolving showcase of the best of what each season has to offer
